Specialist Residential Therapeutic Care · Est. 2004

Helping young people break the cycle, not just manage it.

Amberleigh Care operates two national centres of excellence for young males who have exhibited harmful sexual behaviour — combining trauma-informed therapeutic community living with clinical oversight and education, built around evidence and NICE guidance.

Our Approach

Structure and relationship, working together

Both centres operate as formal therapeutic communities — a deliberate, highly structured way of living where routine, boundaries and relationships are all worked with intentionally in service of recovery.

Therapeutic Community Living

Daily life, roles and routines are structured deliberately — every interaction is part of the therapeutic task, not incidental to it.

The Good Lives Model

Our understanding of harmful sexualised behaviour is grounded in this strengths-based framework, not risk-management alone.

NICE-Aligned Clinical Practice

Assessment and day-to-day practice are consistent with 2016 NICE guidance for harmful sexual behaviour, led by a forensic psychologist.

Our Centres

Two settings. One standard of practice.

Each centre combines residential care, education and clinical therapy on site, set within the rural landscapes of Powys and Shropshire.

A Young Person's Journey

Typically 24–30 months, three ways forward

Boys arrive with us having faced very difficult and traumatic early lives, almost always with social services involvement and often a string of failed placements behind them. Their length of stay and move-on route are shaped around their needs and age on arrival.

Referral

Arrival & assessment

Often directly from family, always with social services, frequently with police and legal involvement.

24–30 Months

Therapeutic community

Structured relationship-based living, integrated 1:1 and systemic therapy, education, and risk reduction work.

Move On

Three pathways forward

Return to family or foster care, completion of education into college, or a supported step toward independence.

Therapy & Education

Therapy that runs through everything — not just the 1:1 room

Direct 1:1 sessions matter, but therapy at Amberleigh is systemic and integrated across the whole service, overseen by an in-house clinical team led by a Forensic Psychologist.

  • Multi-disciplinary therapists trained across a range of models
  • "Stage not Age" curriculum tailored to each pupil
  • Academic, vocational and recreational education on site

Employee-Owned Trust · 2025

One of the first childcare organisations in the UK to put staff and children first — legally.

No individual shareholders. No dividends. Profits are reinvested into the service, the staff who deliver it, and the young people it exists for — a deliberate alternative to Private Equity ownership in children's social care.
